Surviving the Burnout Mindset
One of the absolute favorite parts of my work is mentoring Young Professionals when they join our company. When I started mentoring, I imagined it would be a lovely walk through fields of tooling, code, strategy, assignments and dealing with clients. Yet, it turned into a rollercoaster of emotional conversations, working through insecurity and reconfiguring mindsets. It turns out that many things you learn during your younger years are actually an awful preparation for the professional world you are about to enter. The sheer size of organizations, the bewildering complexity of problems and a baffling number of hidden agenda’s: nothing you’ve done so far has prepared you to survive these. Because the only thing I see most Young Professionals do is listen to the client and work harder. And then they fall over, on sick leave for months. The mindset that causes this is called the Burnout Mindset. But I’m here to help!
Join me for the first mentoring session of your career! I’ll explain where that mindset comes from, how to deal with its effects and prepare you for a healthy and sustainable career in IT. I’ll use concrete examples of Young Professionals I’ve helped along the years and make sure that the insecurity (or overconfidence) you have about your future work will not come back to bite you in the backside.
